Stock condition, fire, asbestos, legionella, damp & mould, EPC — every compliance survey starts the same way: someone has to reach a tenant and agree a time. Halcyra was built to make that step disappear into the background.
In Greek myth, Alcyone was the daughter of Aeolus, keeper of the winds. When her husband Ceyx drowned at sea, she threw herself into the water after him — and the gods, moved by it, turned them both into kingfishers. The Greek for that bird is ἀλκυών — halcyon.
Her father then did something small and specific: he stilled the winds for seven days either side of midwinter, so she could brood her eggs on a nest floating on open sea. Not forever. Just long enough, at exactly the point it was needed.
Those calm weeks are still called the halcyon days.
That's the idea behind the name, and behind the kingfisher in the logo. Arranging access with residents is the part of a survey programme that generates the most noise — unanswered calls, missed visits, rearranged days, admin that eats the week. Halcyra's job isn't to be clever about it. It's to hold that stretch steady, so the actual work can happen.
Halcyra started as a way to solve one specific, familiar problem: surveyors and admins spending hours on the phone, at the times residents are hardest to reach, just to agree a slot. Everything in the product — the plain-English negotiation, the working-hours rules, the hand-off to a person — comes from what actually goes wrong in that process, not from a feature list written in the abstract.
Stock condition surveys are the starting point. The same problem — coordinating access with a tenant, safely and with a full audit trail — applies just as directly to fire risk assessments, asbestos surveys, legionella checks, damp & mould inspections, and EPCs. As Halcyra grows, it's built to serve all of them, not just one.
I've spent over 30 years in the compliance industry. In that time I've seen the same shortfalls in efficiency come up again and again — surveyors losing hours to unanswered phone calls, visits failing because nobody was home, and admin teams re-arranging appointments that should never have needed re-arranging in the first place.
So I built Halcyra to fix it — a way to arrange that access by text instead of by phone, so surveyors spend their time on the inspection itself, not chasing an appointment.
Halcyra is a father and son team. My son, Joel Collins, is studying business at university and works on it with me — which means the people building it are the same people you'll deal with.
If you want to talk about whether it fits your organisation, you'll be talking to me — not a sales team. Call 07931 812340 or book a demo.
Halcyra is a young company. Case studies on this site marked "illustrative example" are worked scenarios, not real customer testimonials — we'd rather be clear about that than dress it up. Every technical claim on the Security & GDPR page is backed by a document in the Trust Centre.
Happy to talk through the roadmap, a pilot, or anything on the Trust Centre.
